This is the interview of David, a 27 year old male from Maryland. He has a beautiful wife, two children born, and one on the way. He enjoys almost all sports, and also likes to cook and work in his garden. Two years ago he and his wife made the abortion decision.

Chrys: What religion were you raised in David?

David: I was raised without religion, but not atheist either, just nothing...

Chrys: Are you a Christian now?

David: Yes, I'm in the Baptist denomination. I started my new Christian life one month to the day after the abortion.

Chrys: Do you believe abortion is right and if not, when did you start believing it was wrong?

David: No, I do not believe it is right, and I have always believed it to be wrong.

Chrys: Did you believe it was wrong for moral or biblical reasons?

David: I would say for both reasons. Even though, I was lost, I believed in a God, and I knew that murder was wrong. And I knew that abortion is killing a life.

Chrys: At the time you went through this, was it a mutual decision?

David: When Ashleigh told me that she was pregnant, I didn't know what to do. We already had two kids, and I would just repeat that we couldn't afford this. I didn't really consider abortion. The next day, she said that she had called some doctors, and wanted me to check to see if our insurance covered it. I knew she didn't want to really do this, we didn't really even talk about it. She found a doctor, and I talked to the insurance company. I felt awful just having to say to the insurance company, "my wife and I are going to have an abortion." The decision was mutual, but I don't think either one of us really wanted to do it...

Chrys: Ok, that answered my next question too. It was mainly based on financial worries, right?

David: Right.

Chrys: Do you consider yourself more informed about abortion now than you did then?

David: What do you mean by more informed? About abortion as a whole, or the process?

Chrys: Both

David: Not really. I tend to avoid the issue, and don't come across it often.

Chrys: If there was one thing that you could tell people now who are in the same situation you were then, what would that be?

David: For a Christian or non-Christian?

Chrys: Both, if there's a difference in the answer.

David: I would probably share my story with both, I'm not sure that it would help with the non-Christian, but I could only hope that they would be able to relate to what I was saying. I would have them seriously consider seeking advice from their families. My parents still don't know about it, and her mom wasn't told until afterwards. For the Christian, I would have them consider how God felt about what they were doing. I can't picture a Christian seeking an abortion. Does that happen? I would just try to make them really decide if they were going to obey, or disobey God.

Chrys: Is there anything else you can think of that you would want people to know or that you think should be included in this interview?

David: Maybe how i felt. I felt like it was my dirty little secret, you know. I wouldn't dare mention it to anyone at work, which was kind of hard having to call the insurance people from there. I was pretty indifferent at the time, and wouldn't talk about anything. I am the type of person, who likes to try to deal with everything myself, and in this case, I just chose to avoid the whole topic, and try to avoid thinking about it. After I got saved, I started to think about it. I knew that God had forgiven me, and I knew that one day, I will see this child in heaven. I asked God to raise this child, and I had a peace in the whole matter. I still feel bad about it, but maybe this is what God used to draw me to Him.
