This is the interview of Jeanette, a 36 year old female. She is married and now has three precious children.
When asked her favorite hobbies, she exclaimed "My kids!"
She also enjoys swimming and has a beautiful voice. She made the abortion decision when she was 20.


Chrys: What religion were you raised in Jeanette?

Jeanette: Baptist...yes it's a religion all on it's own. I was baptized when i was 6 or 7 but not really saved, just bathed...i was actually saved when i was about 16.

Chrys: Do you believe that abortion is ok, and if not, did you ever?

Jeanette: No, I do not believe it is ok.. I don't think i ever REALLY did although I thought maybe there were times that it would be ok...situational ethics kinda thing.

Chrys: Was it a moral or biblical reason for believing that?

Jeanette: Probably moral more than biblical

Chrys: In your situation was the decision mutual?

Jeanette: Yes. (pause) As for the mutual decision thing....we both agreed..neither of us voiced objections but i think that both of us deep down were kinda hoping the other would reject the idea. Years later when i had the miscarriage Todd and I talked about it. He said that he never really wanted me to have the abortion. My initial reaction was wanting to hurt him .because all he would've had to do was object and i probably wouldn't have done it. In fact, that is probably the only thing that would have stopped me! But i have NEVER told him that...that is a guilt trip that he just does not need.

Chrys: Were both of you Christians at the time?

Jeanette: Yes.

Chrys: I understand. What was the main reason for this decision Jeanette?

Jeanette: Um...several. We were not married and I didn't want to disappoint my family by having to tell them i was pregnant, and the most bizarre...i didn't want to make the mistake of marrying someone that i wasn't even sure that i really loved enough to want to marry...ya know afraid that in trying to fix a mistake would make an even bigger one? Weird....stupid....i can sleep with the guy but i don't know if i love him enough to marry him.

Chrys: Looking back, do you think you were well informed on pregnancy and abortion at the time?

Jeanette: How do you mean? Like did I really know what I was doing, really?

Chrys: Yes.

Jeanette: No. I guess I'd bought into the world view that it's not really a baby yet...it's an embryo...a fetus etc etc.

Chrys: If you had had more information, do you think it would have influenced your decision?

Jeanette: Ya know it really hit me WHAT i'd done when i saw the ultra sound when i was pregnant with my next child. I saw that little baby that was really a baby! Plus all the reading and stuff ya know ya obsess about when you are pregnant...it was through all that when I was pregnant with him that i began to see so YES to answer your question if I'd seen all that, read all that, known all that i think it would have influenced me to find some other way to deal with it.

Chrys: What is the one thing you would tell people now that are in the situation you were in then?

Jeanette: First of all ...that it never ever ever goes away....you may not have nightmares and panic attacks about it but it is always there....but more than saying anything to them I'd seriously want them to view an ultra sound or two so they can see the babies development and that it is real...
